MFDC stands for Mid Frequency Direct Current. The frequency is normally 1000 hz and the high secondary losses due to this frequency are offset by diodes that convert the energy to almost a straight line removing most of these losses.
There are many benefits to using MFDC over A/C and 3 Phase. They are listed as follows:
TX
IGBT's
Special InformationIn the above picture the blue metal box to the left of the TX is where the diodes are located. The only way to tell is by looking for the secondary mounting pads. The photo on the right is a controller/timer for the MFDC transformer. The MFDC controller/timers cannot be chnaged with different MFDC transformers without complex chamges to the controller/timer.
Most MFDC's are used at 1000 hz. The incloming 3-phase power is inverted, chopped up to 1000 HZ a/c, sent through the TX and rectified one the secondary side. For large throat machines and for high current applications MFDC is a great way to make resistance welding better.
